Universe Speculation

Like most games, especially MMO ones, Black Prophecy takes place in it's own, unique universe, crafted by the ideas of Micheal Marrack and the necessities of game design. We've previously discussed the factions likley to be involved - this time, I'd like to look at and speculate about the actual physical world and locations and see what might be expected there.

The world of Black Prophecy can apparently be traversed using jump drives to travel between different locations plotted on your star map. Some of these locations will be one-offs for missions, other are persistent sectors that you can visit time and time again. It would also seems that there can be several gameplay sectors within each planetary system, with planets apparently visible at different distances depending on what sector you are in.

So, what can we expect to find in these sectors? Various debris like asteriods, ice fields and space hulks have been mentioned as decoration and cover. Beyond that, there are some key features to be found out there:

Resource Stations - Conquereable by clans, these provide resources for both the owning clan and faction, which are used apparently in weapon modification and respawning of defeated pilots. No clear idea on what these look like or where they will be located, although one would expect them to be in the more remote reaches of space, where the power of the factions is somewhat more limited and less secure.

Spires - The Spire Station is a trading, meeting and resource hub. There would appear to be a Spire at least for major inhabited planets - going by the name and what descriptions we know of them, the Spire is probably a link between the planet's surface and the many spacecraft in orbit, with shuttles or similar running between the ground and the spire. In gameplay terms, it seems likley that spires will be based in largley "safe" or policed sectors. There is at least one mission based around protecting a spire however, presumable from NPC attack.

Clan Stations - Akin to Neocron's clan appartments, the clan station is a focused home and base for the clan and in fact its very existence is required for the clan to exist. Various tation modules can be purchased and upgraded for the clan stations. Presumably, as there could be a great many clan stations, each one will exist in its own semi-permentant instance.

Beyond this, what locations do we already know of, or can place some guesses at in the universe? Where may we visit?

Earth - Home of humanity, left long behind and now oddly silent. Generally assumed to have been wiped out by The Restorers.

Sabiador - Humanity's first extra-solar settlement, centre of the new region of human space. Still largley inhabited by Homo Sapiens Sapiens, rather than Genides or Tyi, although both of the new sub-species orgininate from there. Reportedly exceedingly well defended as a result of paranoia about a Genide attack, the Humans there still know that their time is coming to an end. Has apparently isolated itself from other planets for over 130 years. However, Sabiador may not be an in-game location in the long run - various clips and other hints suggests that the player starts off as a part of a Human colony or refugee fleet. It could be that these are fleeing Sabiador after the Restorers wiped it out.

Geneera - Genide world, colonized after their exile from Sabiador.

Atebathos, Murna and Irata IV - Tyi worlds, colonized after the Tyi get bored of hanging around Sabiador without a fight.

Triamon - Apparently the starting location from Black Prophecy. This planet has rings made of ice and is in orbit around the star Ianos

Pan's Junkyard - a dirty brown "starship graveyard", presumably quite similar to Homeworld's Junkyard (although hopefully without the irritating Junkyard Dogs).

Blood Moons - Seemingly these are some form of punishment/penal colonies, where criminals and other outcasts are sent to work. Apparently under Tyi control.

Tarras - Formerly a blood moon, now a holy place for the Church of the Preservers - and site of huge slaughter under genide biological weapons.

So, that's about what I've been able to glean and guess so far. The other thing worth saying is that these locations will frequently look dramatic - both the descriptions and screenshots released by KK attest to that. More details about locations will doubtless be forthcoming - we'll have to see in game however how they all play out, and how the depth of background and storytelling KK seem to be aiming for meshes with the instant action gameplay being touted.
